WIP: TCOBS Prequel

So, I'm not ready to share my prequel title just yet, but I wanted to give you some details of what this epic fantasy prequel to The Curse of Broken Shadows will look like.

First off, it's not exactly a book. What does that mean? Well, the prequel will be a collection of short-medium length stories following Brela's early years. They aren't full plot arcs, but rather snapshots of her life. I'll tell you early on that you'll be getting the story of how she escaped Valisea, a bit of training as an assassin (maybe we'll learn how she broke the arm off a solid stone statue of the earth god), and how she met Farrah and Elias.

The special big story I'll announce on a different day ;)

So, now that I've kept you waiting, here's a little snippet from one of those stories--when Farrah and Brela meet for the first time!

“I’ve never seen someone smile so brightly about a place they’ve never seen.” Brela leaned back and grinned. “I knew there was something more to you.”

“What do you mean?”

“You have a second magic.”

Farrah paled, shoulders hunching as her stomach flipped. “What? I… I don’t—“

“Earth and moon blessed,” Brela continued. “Water and ice from Euota… what magic did Alinora give you?”

“Healing,” she breathed, her voice barely audible. But when she looked up from the table, Brela’s smile hadn’t gone away. “You don’t care that I have tainted magic?”

“What could possibly make you tainted for having two beautiful magic gifts to match such a gorgeous personality?” With a determination in her gaze, Brela leaned forward. “Farrah, one day I’ll take you to the moon temple.”

“Why?”

“Because I never want that smile of yours to stop.”

She blushed. “You are a shameless flirt.”

Brela’s smirk became entirely too wicked. “Is it working?”

Farrah snapped her jaw shut as she chuckled. “It’s definitely earned you a slice of the cake I baked.”

Been feeling a bit under the weather this week which has led to lots of naps. Not to worry, I don't have that cursed sickness, but it's a good reminder to sit back and take a moment for yourself every once in a while. What is your favorite way to relax?
