Shiny New Reads

There’s a shiny new look to the inside of Soul Forgotten! I spent some time polishing this girl again, because after a year my skills have grown and I wanted to give it the additional love it deserved. This is all gearing up for the TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY of my publishing career (which began with this beauty). Soul Forgotten will always be my baby and I'll defend her to my last breath.

Supporting Authors and other creatives:

Reading List - A mix of reader magnets and review books, KU books, discounts and new releases, and group promos with brand new authors.

***I am sorry for the generic line I used to include as a description for my reading list. It mentioned free books, and while I meant that to mean reader magnets (permafree, review copies, or free downloads in exchange for email - all of which I try to include in every reading list), it brought something to my attention. Some have felt misled by that statement thinking they were all free books or that I was only referring to Free in Kindle Unlimited... I will try to do a better job of highlighting the options in the future.

As much as we love free stuff, I want to suggest some other ways to support authors rather than downloading free books and then unsubscribing (it happens often, sadly). Those creative things are made with lots of love, sweat, and tears and it's always nice to get some reward for that work - in fact, many of us rely on that for our livelihoods. That's why it's also important to buy books and support the authors that you enjoy.

But I understand that not everyone has that flexibility. We can't always afford to buy the next book, but there are other ways you can support authors and creatives that don't include making purchases. Here are a few ideas, and if you feel so compelled, reach out to your favorite creatives and see what they would like:

  • Leave a review on a product, podcast, or book - these help other readers or customers find things they will like. It puts our work in front of others and gives us another chance to find someone willing to spend a couple bucks to support us
  • Follow on social media... and engage - It's always nice to get some interaction on social media. Find your favorite author or creative producer and give them some likes, retweets, reblogs, and comments. Those things go a long way.
  • Recommend us to your friends - you can share our social posts or just spread the love in other ways. Credit us with tags when you use our work elsewhere.
  • Consider saving up a dollar or two and buying a book - all of the books I sell are less than $5 on Amazon (yes, the Kindle version). Most of the books I recommend (unless they are part of a boxset) are less than $5. Many are just $0.99. Consider skipping a Starbucks coffee this month. Once again, I know this isn't in everyone's capabilities. It's just another suggestion to help the creators whose work you consume.

I'm very thankful for all of you, and while this is a sensitive subject, I want to make sure I'm catering to everyone no matter what your spending flexibility is. I love having you guys around, and while this won't stop me from sharing some free things with you, this is still my work and my income. Thank you for understanding.

Question of the Week:

Thursday, my hubs and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary (from our first date). And starting today, we are officially ON VACATION! I'll still have a newsletter for you next week, but it will be much shorter.

Kahyr is my comfort character... My question to you - which character (fiction/TV/movie) do you defend even when they do some not so good things?

I love hearing from you guys and I respond to every email I get. If you're a little shy, fill out the 'ask me anything' form instead!

Some readers have had trouble responding to this email (it is sent by my mailing server) so if your reply has been sent back, make sure you're sending the email to author.laurawinter@gmail.com
