WIP - The Curse of Broken Shadows

It was a bit of a rough week in terms of writing progress. I spent a lot of it in and out of a migraine and didn't get as much done. However, this photo still describes how I felt about one of the scenes I was working on...

His eyes finally landed on Cason who had moved to his fourth pillar of the night. At this rate, he’d lean on all thirty pillars to glare at the ballroom before the good wine was distributed.

To Serill’s delight, Cason unfolded his arms and pushed off the pillar, his gaze trained deep beyond the dancing. The Prince knew that even though the Captain didn’t see him, he knew exactly where Serill was at all times. And he knew Serill was following him at a distance, even if he barely acknowledged it.

In a surprising move, Cason snagged a glass of wine from a servant who was desperately trying to scramble out of the fire-wielder’s way. Though his eyes were focused to the right, the Captain continued walking toward the large window overlooking the garden. No one dared stand in his way, as if he was burning his path out of the crowd.

Serill reached the walkway, finally daring to see where his friend was looking.

A smile crept over his face as he spotted the blonde woman in the alcove with the Veil artifacts. He looked back to Cason, a wicked grin on his face.

The Captain paled, flashed his eyes to Serill as if to say don’t you dare think about it.

Serill’s delight must have been written on his face because Cason snarled and made a step toward him. But the Prince was closer. He darted to the right, knowing Cason would be too embarrassed to try to interfere and be caught.

Question of the Week:

Wingman! Serill is quite the wingman for his friend Cason, so tell me: Which fictional character (book or movie) is your favorite side character or wingman/woman for the MC?
