Oh, the WIP this week is pure gold, my friends. I'm also expanding my Discord channel to be a fun hangout for all of us - book chats, bonus WIPs, and inside looks! I'd love to see you there!

I'm still looking for reviewers for Star Collapsed (learn more here), so if you want a free book in exchange for an honest review, send me an email at author.laurawinter@gmail.com!

New on the blog

The Star Collapsed playlist is here! One of my favorite collections from the entire Blue Star world. Since there's no playlist explicitly included in the book, I did a detailed post about each of the songs and how it relates to the story! No spoilers, I promise!

WIP - The Curse of Broken Shadows

I wrote this scene this week and I am still laughing about it. This is not the only one in this new book, so you're in for a treat.

“When was the last time we were outnumbered like that?” Elias asked, turning to Farrah. “I bet it was Symkyn.”

“No, it was Azemar. Six to one,” she replied.

“You’re both wrong,” Brela chimed in, pale gaze still locked with Cason’s blue as he continued to flip her blade. “It was Roulant.”

Elias failed to hold in a laugh as Farrah clasped her hand over her mouth to keep from spitting her food.

“What happened in Roulant?” Serill asked. He’d heard of the town before, north of Dredon and just off the main road that led to the earth temple. He also hadn’t heard many good things about the people who passed through, the questionable markets being the least of concern when it came to the other dealings in dark alleys.

Brela huffed a laugh and jabbed a thumb toward her friends. “Those two snuck off to a broom closet and left me to deal with the armed men.”

“You started that fight,” Farrah replied.

“You also didn’t need our help,” Elias added, still laughing.

“True, but I might have walked out with significantly fewer stab wounds,” Brela answered.

Farrah elbowed her. “If they were serious injuries, why did we come out to find you drinking at the table surrounded by twenty unconscious men?”

“What else was I supposed to do while I waited for you to finish? Bleed out sober?” Brela replied, teeth flashing as Cason finally lost the staring contest with her. He snarled under his breath.

Bleed out sober? Don't mind me, just laughing until next week. Still no official date for when Kindle Vella will be available, but you can get a special look at the first two chapters and join the conversation on Discord. I'll be asking questions, getting help naming things, and asking for your feedback!

Question of the Week:

Dana asked - What are you currently reading? How long is your TBR list?

Well, Dana, the TBR list is so long, it's impossible to count (but I do have a few saved on Goodreads). However, I can answer the first question. I'm currently an ARC reader for SM Gaither's Stolen Shadow Bride and Clare Sager's third book Under Black Skies. I just started Crescent City by Sarah J Maas and I'm waiting for A Court of Silver Flames from the library! Woof, that's a long list. What are you reading?

I love hearing from you guys and I respond to every email I get. If you're a little shy, fill out the 'ask me anything' form instead!

Some readers have had trouble responding to this email (it is sent by my mailing server) so if your reply has been sent back, make sure you're sending the email to author.laurawinter@gmail.com

Sending you love, kindness, and peace for wherever you are right now.
