Inside the mind of a villain...

Jan 12, 2023 8:26 pm

Hello

The release of In the Midst of the Storm is quickly approaching! Everything is ready and on Jan. 24th you'll be able to order a print copy from Amazon!

If you pre-order an ebook, it will automatically be delivered to your Kindle on that day. Pre-order HERE

With the release coming up, I thought I might talk a little bit more about what you can expect inside my book. Specifically, the villain.

I didn't begin writing with the intention of including the bad guy's point of view, but he kind of demanded his time in the spotlight. I blame it on the fact that I was listening to the Cultish podcast and obsessively watching Bailey Sarian's Murder, Mystery & Makeup series (just a forewarning, there is some language in the videos and they are NOT appropriate for children) while writing this book.

Anyway, there will be several sections where we see the bad guy as he's chasing after Olivia. He's pretty intense.

If you want to get a glimpse of what it's like inside of my villain's head, then keep reading for a sneak peek!

Expert from In the Midst of the Storm

EVERY NERVE IN HIS body twitched with impatience as he stood in the long line at the airport. His foot tapped in earnest, increasing his eagerness to be on his way.

This entire thing was taking too long. He’d proven many times to be a very patient man, but he didn’t like things outside of his control.

For weeks, he’d been kicking himself over this unexpected mishap. First, that stupid dog of hers had ruined his plans. He should’ve been prepared to deal with the dog. He’d been momentarily blinded by his increasing desire to claim Olivia James as one of his. He’d gotten cocky, and now he was paying the price.

Lesson learned. And he wasn’t about to make the same mistake twice.

Her brother made matters more complicated. Of course, he just so happened to be in law enforcement. And an FBI agent to boot.

Perhaps his luck was running out. Anger and frustration coursed through him as he thought about the entire situation. No. He wouldn’t let something as fictitious as luck stop him from having what he’d laid claim to. Luck had nothing to do with it.

Once he got over his failure, it had proven easy to track her brother to the FBI headquarters in Denver. His gut told him if he found the brother, he would find Olivia as well.

Now that the police and FBI were involved, most men would drop their pursuit. He smiled to himself. He was not most men. Once he had his eye on something he wanted, no power in this world could stop him from taking it.

And he wanted Olivia James.

Once he found her and finished this, he’d lay low for a while; disappear long enough for everyone to forget about him. Maybe he’d go to Cuba this time. Or Costa Rica.

Walking up to the counter to claim his ticket, he forced himself to inhale a deep breath. He was going to take care of this, no matter how long it took. He would see it to its finish. The anticipation of it drove him and made him feel lighter as the frustration seeped out of him.

A smile formed on his handsome face.

“I have you down for a flight to Denver, Colorado. Is that correct, sir?” The woman at the counter gave him an approving once-over while she spoke.

“Yes, ma’am,” he replied, leaning his arm on the counter. He knew the effect he had on women, and he had used it on more than one occasion to get what he wanted. “I’m heading home to finish up some last-minute business.” He directed a slow head-to-toe appraisal over her, causing a blush to creep up her neck. Winking, he turned away, his charming smile fading into a sinister expression.

I’m coming for you, Olivia. We need to finish what we started.
