Happy Halloween! No Living Latin Live This Week!

Oct 28, 2024 12:11 pm

Salve !

Latin, the language of ancient Rome, provides a unique lens through which we can explore the origins of many of our traditions - including Halloween.

As the Romans encountered Celtic traditions, they integrated their own festivals, such as Feralia, which honored the dead, and Pomona, celebrating the harvest. These celebrations, steeped in Latin and Roman culture, contributed to the evolution of Halloween as we know it today. By studying Latin, we can uncover the linguistic roots and historical connections that link our modern festivities to the ancient rituals that honored the changing seasons and the spirits of the departed.

Happy Halloween! 🎃 👻

Just a reminder that there will not be an episode of Living Latin Live this week (I've got to take my son out trick-or-treating!)

We will reconvene next week on 11/7. See you then!
