This Feels Like a Sin ...

Happy Friday!
'Tis the Season ... Well, spooky season, that is. But you'd never know with the jams I've had on repeat for the last couple of days. I've been working diligently on my November release which is a Christmas romance and what better way to get into the mood than some Frank, Bing, and Michael?
Still, it feels weird. During the day, I'm blasting White Christmas, and at night we're watching the Scream series. Something is amiss ... š
So, to get you into the spooky season I wanted to preview my Monster Romance Naga Say Never today!
Chapter One - Jakari
The house felt drafty, a tell-tale sign of autumn in the air. I had my work cut out for me to get this place sealed up for the winter, not that I officially needed to anymore, everyone in Screamer Woods knew to stay far away from this place.
Thanks to a Halloween punch gone wrong, Iād become the stereotypical ghost in the manor. The creepy old man who lived in the haunted houseāno, I was the snake-man in the shadows.
Rising up on my tail, I lifted myself to the second floor and quickly hammered a shutter in place for the coming cold winds. It didnāt take long, especially when I didnāt need to keep climbing down a ladder and moving it, before the second and third floors were completely boarded up.
This was really the only maintenance I did on the house anymore. Only because otherwise, snow and leaves would find their way into the house no matter how tightly sealed the windows were. And considering I was cold-blooded now, I needed to ensure the house stayed as toasty warm as possible or run the risk of falling into brumation.
Picking up my tools, I slithered back to the shed and tucked everything inside before heading into the house. Now would be the time someone normally would have dinner, but like my reptilian kin, I only needed to eat once a week if I was feeling up to it. But after thirty years like this, Iād gotten down to eating once every couple of months.
I usually went into town, splurged on a big meal, and then returned home, but lately, more and more humans had been making their way into town, and the lingering looks were becoming far too frequent for comfort. It was easier being a monster amongst monsters, but with this new subdivision outside of town going up, more humans were claiming Screamer Woods as their home, completely oblivious to its dark and monstrous history.
Instead, my nights were spent working. It was all I had any more, although everything was done remotely. When I first was transformed, Iād run the company all through phone calls. Which was easy enough when I didnāt need to sleep. That winter I learned my lesson though and ended up in brumation for months before awakening in spring to find myself covered in dust. After that, I learned everything I could about myself while continuing my work as best I could. I built my company up to a multi-million-dollar business which allowed me to step back more and more.
I knew the board was interested in my removal, I was, after all, the reclusive millionaire CEO. But if they knew the truth ā¦ they wouldāve been glad I stayed hidden. I was a freak. A monster. A predator ā¦ and I was better left alone.
Settling into the nest Iād made for myself in the living room, I pulled my laptop out of the fabrics and flipped it open, losing myself in emails and reports. As I scanned through numbers, a creak drew my attention to the door. Quickly shutting the screen, I hid it back in my nest and slithered to the hallway to check.
There it was again.
Someone was trying to lift one of the boards Iād put over the windows today. It rocked slowly, and then one round, bright blue eye appeared in the corner as they looked inside. The front door rattled next, and I slithered closer, going to the window that overlooked the front porch.
A young woman stood there, trying to unlock the door with a hairpin. She threw her head back, tossing her shoulder-length purple hair out of her face. An unnatural color, but on her, it looked so natural. With a glide back down the hall, I went into the basement and quickly turned the power off. The upstairs lock will have shut off immediately, allowing her to come in.
I wasnāt sure why Iād even done it. I was supposed to remain alone, and yet here I was, practically inviting her into my home. All because of a single glance.
Ensuring all the breakers were off, I returned back up to the main floor to see if she realized the door was unlocked now.
I hung back, remaining in the shadows as the door creaked open and I watched her slip through, dropping a grey plastic grocery store bag on the floor. She turned back to the door, manually locking it before looking around slowly. She licked her lips and then cleared her throat.
āHello?ā She didnāt speak very loudly like she didnāt really want to know if she was breaking into an occupied home.
She took a deep breath and tried again, much louder this time. āHello? Is anyone here?ā
She made her way through the house slowly, room by room, checking for occupants. But there was enough dust and other signs of age to give away the fact that it wasnāt. The only thing, if she noticed, was the clean floors thanks to my tail.
But she didnāt.
She stood in the kitchen, taking in the bare cupboards and outdated and empty fridge before letting out a sigh of release. My eyes scanned along her body slowly, taking in her petite form. She couldnāt be older than twenty, although I suspected even that might be generous. She looked like sheād been through hell and back. Her clothing hung off her like it was seven sizes too big and it was full of rips and stains. Her face and hair were muddied, and there was one long gash across her cheek from something.
Whoever she was, she was running from something ā¦ And a sudden, overwhelming protective urge filled me. Whoever was after her would have to go through me to get to her from now on.
āOkay, no food.ā She closed another cupboard and slumped to the floor, wrapping her arms around her legs as she hung her head. I wished I had a store full of food for her to ravage. āI can survive one more night, and if no one comes, then maybe Iāll head into town and get some supplies.ā
She pushed herself to her feet and walked back to the front door, bending down to grab the bag she dropped. She walked over to the console table in the foyer and dumped the contents out, pushing aside the used box of bleach and purple dyeāthat explained the hairāto start counting the money that had spilled out of the bag.
She sighed when she finished, putting it all back before nodding her head. āIām going to need a job if I stay here.ā She looked around, her eyes drifting upstairs. āMaybe I need to make sure I can stay here first.ā

Spooky Love - Free Shifter, Vampire, and Spooky Romance
There's a certain percentage of women who've never experienced the big O. I happen to be one of them. When I confide that in my two best friends, they decide I can't go a moment longer without experiencing it. Next thing I know, they've signed me up for a dating app that's sure to get me all my jollies and then some.
I'm not so sure.
With a bar to run, a venture-capitalist partner telling me how to run it, and a past that makes my present difficult day to day, adding any kind of relationship--temporary or not--to that is a complication I just don't need.
Or do I?
When I finally cave and agree to meet someone, fate must think I'm a joke, because it's my business partner, Drew Miller, who walks in the door. I want to leave immediately, but when he convinces me to stay and talk it out, he makes me an offer I might actually take--he'll help me search for my missing O if I stop fighting him on the direction he wants to take the bar expansion. If he can't do it, I get control of my business back.
It's an offer too good to refuse...

I hope she's ready to be claimed now she's melted the ice around my heart because I plan on keeping my blonde angel ... forever.
