Has anyone else noticed I forgot to write a subject for the last two weeks? FACEPALM.

Happy Wednesday!

I literally hit send last week and realized I never went back to change the subject line. And I noticed I did it the week before ... It's been one of those months, and we're only halfway through.

The kids are in school, we're finding a routine, and yet I'm grappling with all this newfound alone time I have. To be honest, I've been burning the candle at both ends for a while now. Nearly a year, actually, and it's catching up to me.

I'm burnt out. I'm struggling to find my motivation to write, and I know I need to slow down before I lose it completely.

Originally, I had two books planned for release this month, but I've taken it to one, and it'll be at the very end of the month. This is both scary and well-needed.

Scary because when I slow down, my income slows down. Amazon pays authors two months behind so this month's income would be the money I use for Christmas.

I was reading an article a few days ago where someone was talking about the Penguin/Random House antitrust trial and how they admitted that out of 58k books traditionally published every year half of those books only sell less than a dozen.

So, if you ever wondered why people choose self-publishing ... that's why. I've luckily sold more than a dozen books on every title I have in my catalog. But I'm also not rolling in the dough.

I've always promised to be honest about what it's like being a self-published author, so here it is. These are my daily earnings up until today for the month of September. The highest peak, my best-selling day, was $25. You can see from there how much I make roughly every day following.

See on the 7th how there's suddenly a massive dip in the red? It's because someone bought my book and then returned it when they finished reading it. (the blue arches are KU reads). I only know it was a read-and-return (as touted by TikTok) because the book that was returned hadn't been purchased in the five days before it, but suddenly, I was in the negatives for this book.

So, if you've heard of this fun trend. Please spread awareness that read-and-returns are not "taking money" out of Amazon's pocket. Amazon charges me the WHOLE price for the return, even though originally they were only paying me 70% of the price. Read-and-returns take money out of the pockets of people who can't afford it. Whose income is deeply affected by returns.

That's it for this month's soapbox. The release I'm working on for September is the next Famiglia Diablo book, so if you haven't read the series yet, I highly recommend it. It's my favorite to write.

You'll love it if you like:

✔️ Steamy Scenes

✔️ Demons

✔️ Mafia

✔️ Darker themes

Those last two were apart of a collab and will eventually get series-branded covers :)

That's it from me! Much love,
