Tik-Tok Trends (Writing Workshop)

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been riveted by the recent Tik-Tok trends.

As a schoolteacher myself, I’ve seen our bathrooms get trashed by “devious licks” and I’ve seen teachers get slapped; because after all, October is “Slap a Teacher Month.”

But I think that we’re asking the wrong question as educators and even adults.

Instead of asking - what and the hell is wrong with these kids … we need to be asking – what’s the impetus behind this?

When I see stories like this in the news, my antennae go up and proclaim – bingo … fantastic lesson plan idea here!

Whenever I make a unit, my first concern is engagement – will my students love this assignment and be hooked?

Well, my students loved everything about this unit from the Socratic Seminar to the actual essay itself!

I know that this year has been tough on all of us. The kids are squirrely and our free-time seems to be non-existent.

As such, I’d love to pass off this unit to you.

Here’s the video of the writing workshop.

If you’d like the PowerPoint so that you can host your own writing workshop, just reach out. I can also send the articles that we used to get anchored in the thesis.
