Two truths inspired this quick lesson:
- Most students have difficulty determining how terms/devices/techniques construct meaning in a text
- Diss tracks are the current rave (and they are rife with literary merit0
So, what I did for this project is equip each student with a lunch baggie loaded with five distinct terms/devices/techniques.
And in turn, students had to write a diss track incorporating these five elements.
Today's video gives a quick demonstration.
My thinking is simple: if students can employ the terms/devices/techniques in an original work, they can in turn identify them in texts.
And it worked!
Happy teaching and happy writing!
