Teaching Argument With Bob Ross & Mister Rogers

Even though all of us are on break enjoying Christmas cheer and the merriment of the season, I’m assuming that some of you can’t shake the existential dread of knowing that soon you’ll be called back to the classroom.

Yick … especially if you don’t have lesson plans and units in store.

When I return, my Lang. students and 12th graders will be tackling argument.

What I’ve done is create two assignments: the first is an argument paper centering upon Mr. Rogers’ famous quote about looking for the helpers; the second is anchored in Bob Ross’ aphorism about there being no mistakes, just happy little accidents.

How about returning to the daily grind with two of our favorite teachers?

You can’t go wrong with Bob Ross and Mr. Rogers.

I have made writing workshops for both assignments and they are in my YouTube channel.

If you would like the PowerPoints so that you can host your own writing workshops, then please email me at [email protected]. I can also pass along the prompt handouts (although prompts are on the second slide of the video and PP).

Please subscribe to the channel. I’ll be posting 2-3 videos per week going forward.

A number of teachers have reached out to inquire about the textbook Timm Freitas and I are collaborating on. I’m not sure when it will be published. We both are plugging away, but a final release date has not been set. So, sit tight. We’ll keep you posted.

And folks have also asked about my Teach It “Write” 5-Week Mastermind. I do have just a couple of seats open for the January 9th start date. Check out my webpage for details.

Wishing you all a very merry holiday season with friends and family.
