Imagine this ... getting all of your students to construct killer lines of reasoning by means of an edible template and graphic organizer!
This brainchild is super left field and way out of the box all at the same time, but it really works.
Borrowing the classic Lay's Chips adage of "no one can eat just one," I have cobbled together an edible template and graphic organizer that perfectly elucidates how to stay cogent while pulling the strings of my syllogistic method.
In today's writing workshop video, I Bob Ross the concept while dissecting two poems:
- Mountain Dew Commercial Disguised as a Love Poem by Matthew Olzmann
- Shaving by Richard Blanco (FRQ 2 from the AP Lit. 2022 Exam)
In my next video, I will demonstrate the same concepts for rhetorical analysis, synthesis, as well as argument.
Up my sleeve, I'm prepping for another session I will be hosting with The National Writing Project.
We will be meeting live in Zoom on December 10th at 11 a.m. EST.
Replays will be available.
In brief, I am going to showcase all of my wacky tricks to get students to sustain cogent lines of reasoning - everything from my incorporation of children's stories, gamification methods, to even a slew of edible concepts.
We will also explore how my templates of the declarative/inverted thesis, as well as the syllogistic method, can be used uniformly across the expository modes every time that students write an academic paper.
Hope to see you there!
Happy teaching and happy writing!
