After Kristian Kuhn's alternative grading zoom I went to last week I decided to have my students write comments on their essays they had just finished.
First, I “Bob Ross-ed” it and used an essay I wrote. I've since responded to their comments and now have comments coming back on my comments.
This has changed so much for me
1. It has made my students less fearful of making errors
2. It made my students actually pay attention to their own writing and not just their evidence.
3. It made grading much more enjoyable and faster for me
4. I feel so much more connected to my students then I have for the last few weeks (we have been on zoom for the last two months)
