One way to ignite student's spark (as well as a love of poetry) is to allow them to analyze their favorite song lyrics.
Probably much like yourself, I have a ton of Taylor Swift fans ... so in order to shore up how to write a literary analysis of a song lyric ... I tackled Swift's timeless classic, "Karma."
Starting with a blank canvas, I "Bob Ross" how to construct the introductory paragraph with my inverted thesis heuristic. From here, I cobble together the body paragraphs within the perimeters of my syllogistic method heuristic. And for good measure, I even tacked on a few of our favorite conclusion stems.
