Free Webinar (Constructing Synthesis)

image

The other week I extended a collective invitation to collaboratively construct a synthesis unit around the following essential question …

Mr. Owl … How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop?

Over the past couple of weeks, I have worked with a team of eighteen teachers running the 9th-12th grade gamut, plus AP/IB.

Together, we hammered out a prompt and gathered some really intriguing sources for our students.

All nineteen of us walked into our classrooms and gave each kid a lollipop and said …

Have at it … how many licks does it take?

The source material gets into some really cool “stuff” like Walter Miscel’s Marshmallow Test … there’s even some psychological studies that correlate birth order and eating habits … as well as studies that explore notions of delayed gratification and impulse control.

This was super FUN and engaging!!

When I work with teachers, I really insist that they position themselves as the expert writer in the classroom and become the “Bob Ross of Composition” and “paint” with their students.

This Thursday night at 8 EST, we are hosting a FREE webinar whereby we’ll look at how to construct this synthesis essay while incorporating my templates.

During our time together, participants will have an opportunity to try their hand at crafting some exemplars and models for their own classroom use.

All nineteen of us wrote endless exemplars and models … so there’s plenty to look at as we explore how to pull the strings of my templates.

We will be meeting in Zoom Thursday night at 8 EST.

Below is the meeting information.

So hoping to see you there!!

Happy teaching and happy writing!
