Each year when the AP exams are released (both Lang. and Lit.), I sit down at my desk and crank out each of the FRQs.
In today’s writing workshop video, I spotlight FRQ 1 2024 (Set II) George Moses Horton’s “On Summer.”
Here’s what I address in the writing workshop:
1. A demonstration of how to read this particular poem (it was a tad tricky). In particular, I address all of the syntactical maneuvers (especially the odd use of the semicolon).
2. I model how to manipulate my inverted thesis heuristic three times – this should nicely and concretely demystify how to tackle the introductory paragraph
3. From here, I write the body paragraphs with my syllogistic method heuristic
4. And for good measure, I also model how to tag a conclusion paragraph
5. I also address how to sustain the line of reasoning and add elements of complexity
If you scroll down a bit in the video's description, you’ll find access to all of the slides featured in the writing workshop (free).
Over the next few days, I'll be making videos for the rest of the FRQs (Both Sets ... Both Exams).
Hope this helps!
Happy teaching and happy writing!
