Gamifying Grammar, Punctuation, Syntax (Mickey Mouse Squares)

image

I've acquired quite a bit of gray hair over the past few weeks ... lots of grammar, punctuation, syntax errors (STILL!!!) in my student's writing.

Hence today's video workshop that spotlights a super fun gamified approach to shore up the basics.

Borrowing heavily from their seminal text, "Write It Right," Strunk & White teach the fundamentals while I dig deep into my edutainment arsenal.

What I have done is create 50 mentor sentences that are riddled with grammatical errors and completely devoid of punctuation (with a tad bit of wonky syntactical choices).

Split into teams of four ... the students need to help Mickey make each sentence perfectly perfect.

This is a very high engagement means to provide students with the necessary foundations of composition.

In the video's description, you can find access to the 50 mentor sentences, the Mickey Mouse game PowerPoint, as well as a copy of Strunk & White's "Write It Right."

This is a definite crowd pleaser that is a load of laughs and learning!
