Given that Timm Freitas and I are collaborating on a textbook together, it seemed sensible to take advantage of my YouTube channel a bit more so that a wider audience can learn about my templates.
What I have been doing is posting one video per week in FB group hot spots like the ones for AP Language and AP Literature, as well as the National Writing Project and Teachers Making Better Writers.
To date, I’ve posted my hot topic synthesis units that are anchored in pop culture like Tik Tok trends, MTV Ghosted, and even SpongeBob Squarepants for our younger students.
Many folks have reached out to me and asked – but Kristian, what about the exams?
To be honest, I don’t do a lot of direct test prep with my students - not until at least the middle of March. (And my scores never suffer)
But I’ll give the people what they want …
This coming Saturday we’ll look at FRQ 1 for both Lit. and Lang.
I’ll post both videos in my YouTube channel so that everyone can get a sense of how to incorporate my templates for exam specific tasks.
Probably to no surprise … nothing changes … my templates can be used uniformly across the expository modes ... exam or no exam.
New essay … crank it out with the same old templates.
And with regards to the textbook Timm and I are writing … we spoke last week and the ball is rolling. I am almost done with my share. And I love what we are doing and am beyond excited to see what comes next for both Timm and I. We both want to leave an everlasting mark when it’s all said and done.
In order to gather a bit of data that I am using for the textbook, I created a new course – Teach It “Write” 5-Week Mastermind. In brief, we will start on January 9th and meet for five consecutive Sundays in Zoom. Participants will get well versed with how to implement my templates and build writers from the ground up. We will go for an hour each session beginning at 7 pm EST.
If this sounds like something you might be interested in, please reach out and I’ll give you more details about all of the moving parts.
