While it's admittedly difficult to figure out the College Board's gobbledygook explanations of what they deem to be "sophisticated" writing, one thing is clear: students need general mastery of the basics.
And that's what today's video seeks to achieve - yellow belt mastery of grammar, punctuation, syntax.
My academic year started a week ago, so I am commencing with some good ole fashion Strunk & White (gamified/edutainment-esque).
In this instructional exercise, you and your students will find 50 mentor sentences totally devoid of punctuation.
Students' job is this: plug in all the missing syntactical units.
The entire slide deck is available for download - just scroll down a tad bit in the video's description.
And please subscribe to my YouTube channel if you haven't already.
Like karate, I increase the difficulty as the academic year progresses - ultimately getting us to black belt mastery (12 Sentence Types / 20 Sentence Patterns)
Happy teaching and happy writing!
