Exactly twenty-years ago, I sat across the desk from Ted Sizer, the man who “thunked up” School Without Walls and Horace’s School, for an interview to get into Brown University’s MAT program.
He asked me …
Who are you going to be as a writing instructor?
Without so much as a second thought, I said …
The Bob Ross of Composition.
Ever since that day, I have embraced the pedagogical approach of Bob Ross in terms of how I deliver writing instruction.
It’s made a world of difference.
My students, if they give even just a single iota of effort, invariably grow and mature as writers over the course of the academic year.
So, let’s explore the question this coming Tuesday night: what if we taught writing like Bob Ross teaches writing?
In order to fully participate in the webinar, you need to come to the screen with a BOX OF CRAYONS and two blank sheets of white paper.
You will not get the gist of the message unless you have a BOX OF CRAYONS and a couple sheets of paper.
I’m so looking forward to this webinar. This is the “stuff” that can totally reframe how you approach writing instruction.
Feel free to invite your colleagues.
Here’s the link.
See you Tuesday the 10th at 8 p.m. EST (People often goof the time … I’m in Rochester, NY … so east coast time).
