Hi !
It's spring break here, which is meaningless once you're out of school, but it does mean most of my colleagues with school-aged kids are out. My toddler is almost three, so I've got some time before that happens. Instead, I'll spend the 'spring break' daydreaming about/plotting my current work-in-progress, a genderbent Theseus and the Minotaur (coming out late this year with Thalia as the protagonist).
I've been a big daydreamer since I was a kid, when I wrote romantic plots for my own characters or characters in books/media. Basically, unwritten fanfiction. Did someone die in that story? Nope, but they fell in love with so-and-so, a newcomer who fixed it. Did someone end up with another character I didn't like? Oh, shame, they broke up, but managed to fall in love again with so-and-so. And on and on. Which means Grace, in If the Walls Fall, is a little bit like me when I was her age (17), daydreaming and finding romantic situations where there are none (until story events take that opportunity away). Most of my friends thought that 'hobby' was a little odd, so do tell me if I wasn't alone in it.
The only plotline I could never abide by was cheating. For whatever reason, that was my hard no. (Which meant that as a teen I couldn't even have crushes on celebrities with significant others because I didn't even want to imagine cheating.) I've gotten less strict in my dislike as I've age, no longer will infidelity make me put down an otherwise good story. Do you have any hard "NO"s? I'd love to find out, because it's helpful in gauging readers' interest in various tropes.
One last note: I've got another fun set of freebies for you! Another set of authors is sharing free content (from excerpts of books to full-length novels) for the rest of the month. This one is for the strict fantasy lovers out there, with options in the epic fantasy, high fantasy, litRPG, sword & sorcery, fairytale retellings, romantic fantasy, fantasy romance (other world), portal fantasy, contemporary fantasy, and YA fantasy genres. If you're interested in any of the free content from the Portal to Fantasy group, you can click below and peruse the options at your leisure.
Stay safe/healthy, and I hope to hear from you!
Kay
