At the end of summer, sixteen years ago, we promised we’d keep in touch. And I did. She didn’t.

I spent a year reaching out to her in every way imaginable, desperately clinging to the future we’d planned while we walked hand-in-hand on the beach. When July rolled around again, I waited eagerly, for her family’s return. They never came. She never came.

I blamed her. I blamed myself. I blamed my big, involved family who are basically royalty on this island our ancestors found. After a while, I forgave her and moved on.

Of course I did.

Carrying a torch for sixteen years would be ridiculous.

So the fact that she’s come back to the island, apparently to stay? Doesn’t matter to me at all.

Maybe I’ve been asking God why, but I figure He’s got some kind of plan.

I can probably learn to accept her as a member of our little town, but that’s where it has to end.

My heart’s still too shattered to risk breaking it again.

The path to true love is never picture perfect. Especially in this small town…

Jo Stewart never wanted to see her hometown again. Too bad fate (and her boss) had other plans. All she has to do is write a feature on the starlet who found love in Wishing Well, then she’ll put the town behind her for good. It was a perfect plan. Until she ran into her high school crush and started questioning everything about her future.

With his brother’s wedding approaching, Jack Turner can’t help but wonder if he should’ve made some different life choices over the years. For example, why hadn’t he noticed Jo in high school? Well, he was certainly noticing now. Too bad she didn’t seem eager to give him a second chance…

It’s not long before Jo and Jack realize they could build a happily ever after together. But only if Jo can put her trust in Jack—and in love—when it matters most…

A star shortstop. A benched heart. A second chance sparked by fate—and a sassy pup.

David

I saw my brother and best friend fake-date their way to true love, but that’s not for me. As a single dad and the Smokies shortstop, my heart’s been out of the game since my wife passed. Love was a once-in-a-lifetime gift, or so I thought—until a familiar face stirs a spark I can’t ignore.

Cat

Betrayed by family,I’m done with love, thanks to a dad who taught me it’s a lie. My heart’s been locked tight since leaving the boy I loved. As the Smokies’ new Director of Fan Experience, I’m focused on work, not Aunt Dottie’s marriage schemes. But when a certain single dad’s hazel eyes collide with mine, my past comes barking back.

Will a matchmaking daughter and tail-wagging chaos help David and Cat hit a homerun, or will old heartaches throw them a curveball?
