Funny Little Monsters by Laurel Black

Metal bars closed in on him, suffocating him. He was caged in, the darkness doing little to alleviate his anxiety. Kai couldn’t breathe. He carelessly clawed at the air, screaming for help, for someone, anyone, to come and save him. But no matter what he did, he was here, being crushed to death by the madness. He could hear a familiar voice call his name, a woman’s voice. Tracy’s, it sounded like. Yet it was drowned out by his own, and once more, he cried out. Her name escaped his lips.

At the front of the cage was a man. There was fur all over his body, horridly mangled with bleeding flesh and bone. A stitched-on Glasgow smile caressed his grotesque skin. A large tail swished back and forth, with the sounds of a merciless cackle slipping through black gums; it was as though he was amused by Kai’s fear.

The monster kept creeping around the cage, eyeing him, cornering him, all the while laughing at his growing insanity.

After seemingly being rejected by his biological mother, Kai decides leave, though he had no idea where he was going. Following futile desires for freedom and love, his car suddenly breaks down in the middle of a forest. He decides to try to get help, only to be attacked by a pack of wolves. He's unwittingly saved by a man named Mason, who tries to nurse him to health. But what starts off as a small crush turns into something tragic, as Kai tries uncovering Mason's secrets, with his own pain haunting him

In the opulent yet unforgiving streets of Edenhaven, Ariana, a 16-year-old heiress to a wealthy merchant, has known little kindness within the walls of her grand home. Subjected to years of cruelty, her spirit battered and her belief in love shattered, she finds herself cast out and wounded one stormy night by the very family she yearned to connect with. This act of betrayal, however, propels her into the arms of Eloria, a realm brimming with magic and mysteries waiting to be unraveled.

Here, amidst the enchanting vistas and enigmatic inhabitants, Ariana stumbles upon Thorne, a figure as intriguing as the new world she navigates. In his eyes, she glimpses the possibility of a love that could mend her fractured soul and a trust so profound it dares her to dream again. Yet, as she weaves her path through this beguiling tapestry, the shadows of Eloria whisper of secrets dark and deep—secrets about Thorne that threaten to unravel everything she’s come to cherish.

"Wings of Redemption" invites you on a journey of healing and discovery, where the quest for self-worth becomes as entwined with the fabric of magic as with the heartbeats of those who dwell within it. Can Ariana navigate the complexities of her new life and uncover the truth before it consumes her newfound haven?
