It was definitely worth it.

,
Yesterday, I told you about your bio and I asked you to take a look at it and ask yourself a few sincere questions that would give you an insight into the quality of your bio.
Now, it's just a question of whether you did it or not.
But then, it doesn't really matter now, because like I said yesterday, I will be showing you today some HACKS on how to OPTIMIZE your social media bio to:
- Generate quality leads,
- Position yourself as authority immediately to leads who come to your profile,
- Grow your followers organically to 1k followers, 2k and so on,
- Sell yourself and your products to your leads and prospects subconsciously, et cetera.
But just before I dive right into it, I have another small exercise for you to do today again.
I want you to go to your profile on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or whatever social media platform you are using for your brand or business online.
When you get there, scroll down through the posts, and yes, I know they are your posts. Read through them and ask yourself these questions.
- Do these posts contain valuable content?
- Do these posts position me as an authority in my niche?
- Is my profile filled with tons of unnecessary tags from both my friends and unknown people (For Facebook in particular)?
- If I was a random lead scrolling through social media and I came across my own page, would I want to follow this person, engage with their content or even buy the person's product?
- Can these posts act as a lead magnet on their own (Meaning are they valuable enough for people to share them and tag other people thereby attracting more leads to you)?
Again, it's up to you to do this exercise.
If you like do it, or not.
But then, it's for your own good.
Back to the topic at hand.
HACKS TO OPTIMIZE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA BIO.
I am going to summarize these Hacks into Four "pillars" of your bio which are:
1. Your Profile Picture
This is the first thing that grabs the attention of anyone who comes across or lands on your bio or handle on any social media platform.
The quality of the picture in your profile goes a long way in positioning you subconsciously in the minds of your leads.
Imagine a so called "top marketer" or "top copywriter" having SpongeBob or a cat or himself shirtless as his profile picture.
Sucks right?
Yeah I know.
Here are some tips you should keep in mind regarding your profile picture.
- Get a clear headshot of yourself. Emphasis on (HD) Clear. Preferably a studio taken photograph. If not, a nice shot taken with a good camera should suffice.
- Your profile picture should be your own picture except you are running a faceless brand which I would not recommend, not unless you are Dolapo Hamzat.
- You should be the only one on your profile picture, except you have a picture with your mentor or someone well-known and influential in your niche. It can also help to position you as an authority.
- Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to wear a suit, or dress formally for that matter. Just make sure you wear something presentable and look sharp.
2. Your Username or Handle.
- Ideally, your name and surname should be your username or handle. If you don't want to use your name, you can choose a simple username. One that people don't need to bite their tongue to pronounce and can be easily be remembered.
- You might want to maintain one username for a long period of time. Because people may search for they name they know on the search bar. And if you have changed your name, they won't be able to find you. Quit changing your username frequently.
Other tips include:
- Your username shouldn't contain numbers and other characters like # or @.
- You don't need to include a title in your display name (this is different from your username or handle on Instagram and Twitter).
You will see some people put things like "Marketing Guru", "Sales Lord", "Guru Maharaji of Copywriting", "King of Closing", "Graphics Godfather" and many other (sometimes hilarious) titles like that. 😂
All these things don't really matter especially if you are just starting out online.
Focus on what matters.
3. Your Bio (description)
This is the space on your bio where you can write some text about yourself.
Here, you should explain who you are and what it is that you do or what you bring to the table.
Being ultra specific will help you here.
You can also include your achievements, milestones or how you have helped certain people achieve certain things.
For example if you are a content creator, your bio an be something like:
"Content creator and strategist. I have helped over 13 brands increase their brand visibility and grow their following from 0 to 2k within 30 days in the past 2 years. Click the link below and let's get started with your brand. "
Don't be among those people who litter their bio with different titles like:
"Copywriter | Super Affiliate | Content Creator | Instrumentalist | Author | Coach | Facebook Ads Expert | Public Speaker | Chelsea Fan"
I understand the urge to put everything you are out there.
But by jumbling up your profile with all these things, you will end up confusing your audience or Leads.
And this will not help in positioning you as an expert in your field because you are all over the place.
Ask yourself, what exactly do I want to be known for?
Even if you have a hundred skills, pick just one or two that are most relevant and important to your brand and talk about them in your bio.
Here are some more examples of a good bio description.
4. Call To Action Link
This is the final part of your bio that ultimately drags in the leads. And this is the link that brings then to connect with you. It could be a link that leads to your:
- Website
- Whatsapp DM
- Link tree
- Email list
- YouTube channel, etc.
This link should be put in the website section of your profile. And it doesn't need to be a link to an actual website.
Always check the link and make sure it's not broken.
Once all of these things are put in place, your bio is OPTIMIZED and good to go.
Once potential leads land on your profile, they will be more likely to:
- Hit that follow button,
- Click on the link in your bio,
- Engage your posts by liking commenting.
And so on.
Which will in turn lead to:
- You generating more leads for your business,
- You growing your account's following to 1k, 2k, 5k, 10k and so on,
- Getting more people to subscribe to your email list or to save your contact on WhatsApp,
- Ultimately making more sales of your products, thereby making more money for yourself.
Phew!
This was a long mail, but it was definitely worth it, wouldn't you say ?
You bet.
Anyway, I hope you got value from this mail, 'cause that's all I got for you today.
That said, have a good night's rest.
To your digital success,
