That was how I got admitted

May 08, 2022 2:42 pm

Good afternoon ,

Seems like the universe didn't want me to write to you yesterday,

Because yesterday, I had the most stressful day. I had a job to deliver for a client which required me to do some running around..

You can imagine the stress with Lagos traffic and the hustle that is associated with popular market places.

Plus, I had to attend rehearsals after the whole ordeal.

Despite that, I tried to do strong head and send this mail when I got back home last night, but lo and belold, when I woke up, it was this morning.

My body totally shut down and I couldn't fight it.

But regardless, I am going to dissect the 4 Powerful Elements of a Compelling Headline in this very mail.

That is in just a few short moments,

But before that, I want to share a random thought with you as I normally do every Sunday.

This one is going to be a bit controversial, but I don't mind.

You're allowed to have your opinion just the way I have mine.

And what is this random thought? Here it is.

Sometimes, you need to give up.

Don't get me wrong.

If you want something, by all means go ahead and do all you can to get that thing.

Don't let anyone or anything stop you or discourage you from going after that thing.

Give it everything you've got.

But in life, sometimes, after trying something over and over again multiple times and failing, it's okay to give up... Well not totally give up per se;

You can always come back and try another time, but in the mean time, you can try something else that can work for you right now instead.

I'll give you a story as an example.

Right from when I was young, I had no doubts about what I wanted to be in the future.

I have always wanted to be a doctor.

And when the time came for me to write JAMB, for sure, I picked medicine and surgery.

First year, I didn't get it. Second year, same thing. Third year, still didn't get it.

The problem was that I was always not getting up to the required cut off mark.

At that point, I got pissed at everything and I decided not to write JAMB the next year.

Meanwhile, time was going and I wasn't getting any younger..

That year passed and the next year, I wrote JAMB one more time and still picked medicine.

And when I saw my score (I didn't fail btw; never did), I knew I wouldn't still meet the cut off mark for medicine and surgery.

So I decided to change my course to something else.

That was how I got admitted just like that.

The same admission I had waited for 5 years because I was hell bent on studying medicine and surgery.

I could have waited for longer if I hadn't given up on medicine and chosen something else.

Same vein,

In life, sometimes, things don't go as planned, and there may be little or nothing you can do about it.

So instead of beating yourself up about it and wasting time, sometimes it's okay to give up on it (temporarily if you wish) and focus your attention on something else.

It doesn't mean you will never achieve that thing, but it means you live to fight another day, while still making progress in other areas of your life.

Once I'm done with my current course, I may decide to go back and study medicine.

Better late than never right?

Time will tell.

But I'm sure you get the point.

P.S: I'm not saying that if you try something once and it doesn't work, you should give up.

Because there are some things that don't work at the first go, but later work out if you persist enough.

So make sure you really try something with everything you've got, for multiple times before you give up if it doesn't work.

I hope this makes sense to you.

Meanwhile, here's a quick breakdown of the 4 Powerful Elements of a Compelling Headline.

A compelling headline must be:

1. Useful

Your headline must be Useful and relevant to your reader. It must address your target audience's desires and call them out.

This is where you make your primary promise of what your product or service does for/to your reader.

2. Unique

There's a lot of noise in the marketplace, and chances are your prospect has seen those gimmicks you are using before.

For your product to stand out from the get go, you need to come from a different angle and make your headline feel new and unique that your prospect must not have seen it before.

This is where your big idea comes in.

That's not a topic for today though.

One of these days, I'll explain the concept, or not.

3. Ultra-specific

Your headline should be specific. So you want to:

  • Call your audience out?
  • Mention a time duration?
  • Mention a particular amount?
  • Describe a situation?

Be specific. The more specific, the better.

Instead of saying "How To Lose Weight Within A Short Period Of Time", say "How to lose 50 pounds in 30 days".

It sells better that way. But make sure you don't use fake or outrageous statistics or numbers or you risk losing your reader's trust.

4. Urgent.

Your headline should contain an element of urgency. It should make your reader want to read your copy immediately and ultimately buy your product immediately. This is usually done with the use of the word "now".

But if you do your job properly in the first three elements, you may not need to use urgency in your headline.

So there you have it.

The 4 Powerful Elements of a Compelling Headline.

Use these powerful elements and watch your copy or marketing message do better than before.

By the way, don't forget to review your past week and plan the week ahead okay?

That said,

Have a lovely rest of the day.
