Stop being a rolling stone

Dec 17, 2024 5:37 pm

A farmer once went to his farm with his young son.

And when they got to his farm, the son saw two stones at the corner.

One of the stones was huge and the other was round and much smaller.

So the son decided to play with the smaller stone while his father worked.

Everyday, he would hammer away at the small stone trying to break it into smaller bits.

He would carry the stone and move it around.

Sometimes he would even kick and throw the stone around as far as he could.

As time went on, the small stone got further away from where the huge stone was.

Soon, the farmer got sick.

He got so sick that he couldn't visit his farm for a couple of months.

Eventually, he recovered.

And finally he was able to visit the farm with his son once again.

When they got there, his son started to look around for his small stone to play with.

But he couldn't remember where he kicked it to the last time he was at the farm.

So he decided to go and find the huge stone.

When he got to where the huge stone used to be, he couldn't find it.

All he could see was a large object covered in a greenish looking substance where the huge stone used to be.

Wondering what it was, he poked at it with a stick.

That was when he realized that the huge stone hadn't gone anywhere.

It had just been covered completely by a Bryophyte.

Bryophyte is a fancy scientific name for Mosses (my school fees didn't go to waste 🌚).

Here's what a moss looks like in case you were wondering.

Back to my story...

The boy didn't realize his father was watching him while he looked for the huge stone.

Seeing his son's surprise when he found that the stone had been covered, he walked up to him and asked him why he was surprised.

"The stone wasn't like this when we last came here," he remarked.

"Yes, it wasn't like that," his father replied, handing him the smaller stone he used to play with.

"Why wasn't this one covered too?" he asked curiously as he observed that the small stone still looked exactly the same way it was.

His father smiled and said...

"A rolling stone gathers no moss..."

Confused, the boy stared at his father as he continued speaking.

"Mosses, you see, can't grow on objects that are always moving, just like this small stone.

But when an object is stationary for long enough, it can create the right conditions for mosses to grow on them.

Then it becomes a home for them..."

The boy was still confused, but he grabbed the small stone and went on to play with it.

Now let's come back to reality.

Just like mosses need time and a stationary object to grow well and cover ground,

Your skill/business needs time and focus to grow.

The mistake many people make especially in this day and age is trying to do too much at a time.

While at the same time being too impatient to get results from one endeavour before moving to another.

Yesterday you were into fashion design

Today, you're into baking

Tomorrow, you are transitioning into affiliate marketing

Next week, you run into crypto because your friend has told you that that's where the money is (P.S. For this one, you'll run out just the same way you ran in, because what your eyes will see ehn? πŸ˜‚)

It's known as the "Shiny Object Syndrome".

And it's probably the reason why you never seem to make any progress.

You never give your endeavors enough time and focus to allow them bloom and flourish.

Contrary to what a lot of people on the internet claim,

There's no "Quick Route" to success.

You have to lay the foundation first and do the work.

Even those who have had quick bursts of growth, check on them few years later.

If they don't work on solidifying their foundation, they normally crash back down not too long after their first success.

Good things take time.

That's why a rolling stone never gathers moss.

If you know you want to succeed at that business or skill,

You need to give it the required TIME, FOCUS and RESOURCES.

In the digital space, we don't "blow".

Not unless you're into fraud.

But you're not a fraudster, are you?

I didn't think so, because we don't do that over here. 🫰🏾

So be patient and do the work.

And let the universe do its thing.

Trust me, it might take a while.

But in the end, you'll be glad you invested your time, energy and focus into that skill or into that business.

Because the returns will be exponentially bigger than you can imagine.

I hope you got a nugget or two from my "bedtime story" that I crafted entirely by myself.

Have a lovely evening ahead.

Yours "not a rolling stone"
