Hello ,

I just remembered something funny now.

In fact, as I am writing this mail, there is a wide grin on my face. 😁

There's this colleague of mine in the school I teach.

His position is technically equivalent to that of a principal (although not official), and we have kind of have a good rapport,

Except for the fact that he constantly tries to undermine my efforts and abilities.

And even if at the end of the day, it's all jokes and bants, the effects of those "undermining comments" can be very demeaning,

Especially when he says them before the management of the school.

So when this guy made a mistake a few days ago, it was very funny to me.

It was a simple mistake of negligence, and it affected the whole school.

Yes, I mean the whole school, from kindergarten to college, 

And in a bit, I will tell you about his mistake and how it affected the whole school.

But first, what's tomorrow's date?

You said what?

You're right.

May 27th.

And what's happening tomorrow?

You don't know?

Come on!

Don't tell me you have forgotten what's happening tomorrow.. 

You mean you have forgotten that tomorrow is children's day?

Anyway, now you know. 

So, in the local government area I reside in and I believe in Lagos as a whole, or maybe even the whole Nigeria, 

Every term or year (not sure) Dufil Foods Ltd (producers of Indomie noodles) register pupils from schools across the state into the Indomie fan club. 

They usually give them Indomie packs and other little condiments here and there depending on the package they pay for, 

And they also normally organize a children's day celebration party every year. 

Everyone was required to pay a small amount of money to attend the event and the announcement was made. 

The day kept coming closer and closer and this my "principal" had been sweet talking the children into getting their parents to pay, 

And it was working because they were paying, even more than what we expected. 

And if not for the sad news that we received about two days ago, 

Tomorrow, I'd have probably been out with the kids to go have fun. 

But the "principal" just had to ruin everything because of a simple mistake he made. 

And what was this mistake? 

Apparently, the agent of the Dufil Foods company that was assigned to the school had sent him a message saying that the children's day event would be taking place on the 17th/18th of this month,

That is about one week ago.. 

Meaning that the event day had already passed.. 

And guess what! 

He didn't see the message. 

Scratch that!

He saw it (well, I guess), but he didn't read it. 

• Maybe he thought it was a broadcast message and ignored it,

• Maybe he was reading it and got distracted, left it and forgot to read it again, 

• Or maybe he was sleepy when he read it and forgot, 

Who knows?

Heck! 

Who cares?

The point is, because of a mistake as simple as missing a message or not reading a message, 

All the hopes and expectations of the children on all the activities they would do on that day been flushed down the toilet. 

Smh! 

They began trying to look for an alternative venue where the same Indomie event would take place to see if they could still make it.. 

The bus that would take them there was already even being prepared already, 

And yesterday, there was still a glimmer of hope that they would go to the event, 

Only for me to get to work this morning and the "principal" told me.. 

"I will refund the money...". 

"I no want problem"

The other event centers were too far and it was too late.. 

Needless to say, I was disappointed it had to end like this.. 

The children themselves were not happy about it, 

I mean, even today some people still brought money to pay for the event.

But what to do eh? 

They all just had to take heart.. 

The lesson here is simple. 

Don't take little things for granted. 

If you are marketing your product, 

A simple mistake such as talking rudely to a customer, or delivering the wrong package to your customer can do a lot of damage to your business. 

And if you're running a marketing campaign, a small mistake in your targeting or in your ad copy or in your sales funnel can cause all your invested money to go down the drain.. 

Just like that. 

And it will be no one's fault. 

These things happen all the time, but they can be prevented. 

• Be meticulous with your business. 

• Pay attention to details and leave no stone unturned. 

• Don't give room for failure. 

Do all of these and you'll be fine.
