,
In my last email, I told you that I would be breaking down the concept of big idea for you today.
And I am going to do that in a moment.
But before I do that I want to use this opportunity to further explain what we talked about yesterday.
If you are current with what is happening in the social media space in the past few weeks and days,
Then you know that Elon Musk has been introducing a lot of strict measures on Twitter,
All of which has been geared towards encouraging more Twitter users to pay for the Twitter blue subscription.
And the most recent measure introduced was restricting the number of tweets that each normal user can view, to about 600 tweets.
That - in my opinion - was the last straw that broke the camel's back.
Because a lot of Twitter users have been looking for an alternative solution.
And some of them have started migrating to another app like "Truth".
Meanwhile Mark Zuckerberg, that annoying genius, who has probably been planning this all along,
Capitalized on the saga and just yesterday launched a new app called "Threads".
The app works basically just the same way Twitter does but is linked to the Instagram app.
And in just seven hours, the app reached over 10 million users.
Why do you think millions of people are leaving Twitter to join Threads, aside from Elon Musk's shenanigans?
The answer is just one button.
If you haven't figured out the genius behind the button circled in the screenshot above,
The genius is in the fact that users of the "Threads" app can repurpose and repost all of their content to Twitter, all with the click of one button.
And since Twitter does not have this same function,
This means people would prefer to create and post their content on the Threads app FIRST, before thinking of going to Twitter.
Genius right? I know.
It's a no brainer.
That right there, is a vivid example of what I explained to you yesterday - the USP.
Of course, it remains to be seen whether the Threads app will rival Twitter, will overtake Twitter or whether it will flop eventually.
But as it stands now, the app is doing pretty well for an app that is just under one day old.
Now coming back to the concept of big idea.
You have learnt yesterday that a USP is that feature, benefit or attribute that differentiates your product or brand from others.
So what exactly is a Big Idea?
A big idea is simply a technique used to present a solution or a product in a NEW and EXCITING way that your target audience have probably NEVER SEEN or HEARD before.
Remember, your USP refers to a particular benefit, feature or attribute of your brand or product.
But a big idea presents your brand or product in a new and exciting way...
- That provokes deep curiosity in the mind of your reader,
- Differentiates your product or brand from your competitors in the market place,
- And is intellectually interesting too.
For example, look at this copy written by one of my copy mentors in the health niche.
If you look at this part underlined, it says *"The Hidden tree bark from Sri lanka"*.
When you hear that, what comes to your mind?
- "What is this hidden tree bark that he is talking about?
- "Why is it only found in Sri Lanka?
- "What is so special about this tree bark?"
And other kinds of questions like this are what come to your mind.
And because it piques your curiosity and is intellectually interesting,
You are hooked, and you keep reading the copy till the end.
There are many other diabetes medications in the market place.
But this one will sell out faster because it is unique.
Let's look at one more example, shall we?
If you look at the (second) copy above , you will see that there is something different in the headline that sounds new and exciting.
What is it? You guessed right.
The "anabolic trick" part.
It doesn't sound like anything you have heard about before.
So you are curious and want to know more, and so you keep reading.
Before you know it, you have bought the product if it resonates with what you need.
Coming up with big ideas is not that easy though.
It requires a lot of research on your part, and enough DEEP THINKING.
But if you can come up with a good big idea for your product or brand,
Then you are already on your way to selling out a lot of your products.
