One reason why I hate 9 to 5 jobs or salary jobs is because of the enormous and unnecessary control it gives another person over your life.

Because whoever is your employer gets to decide:

• When you wake up in the morning,
• When you resume at work,
• How long you work for,
• When you get to go home,
• Sometimes they even decide when you sleep (especially if you take work home)...

And most importantly,

• How much you earn;

And this one in particular is very important because it in turn affects:

• How much you can spend,
• The kind of lifestyle you can afford,
• The kind of food you eat,
• The luxuries you can afford to buy or have,
• The kind of experiences that you and your loved ones can have,
• And so on

In fact the quality of your life generally is determined by this one factor, which is how much you earn.

And this is controlled by this same person (your employer).

And believe it or not, when a person has this type of control over your life, that is raw power.

It gives him/her a lot of power over you, and if you ask me that is just too much power.

And trust Nigerians. They don't disappoint.

They abuse that power every chance they get, especially in the local areas.

You will see, hear and even experience things like people's salary being delayed for days, weeks or even months.

Some even deduct from your salary without prior explanation or notification.

And sometimes, the extra benefits you are supposed to get (if you're lucky) are still determined by this same person.

And they are usually the ones who decide what to give you.

They may even decide not to give you anything at all.

And you can't complain or protest because if you do that, you risk losing your job.

And in this present economy where many Nigerians are unemployed, that is too much of a risk.

This is why I love the freedom that the internet gives.

With just your phone or laptop, internet connection and the knowledge of a working and profitable business model,
