Do this to be on the safe side.

One mistake I see many people do generally, not just business owners,

…is that they set unrealistic expectations from people who clearly have different personalities, behaviours, circumstances and realities.

And most times, they don’t do it intentionally.

I guess it’s just a natural inclination to have certain expectations of everyone around us.

But the truth is, we’re not all wired the same way.

And as a result, we won’t always behave the same way.

That’s why a person can be the most intelligent person you have ever come across, maybe even someone who helps you academically,

And yet be an emotionally “out of touch” person.

It’s why a person would make a great boss in an office, but be a shitty spouse.

It’s the same reason why a person can be a great friend to you, your best friend even.

But that same person will be a terrible customer.

This one, I have experienced first hand.

In fact, whenever this friend tries to buy something from me, sometimes I try to avoid selling to him.

Not because I don’t want to make a sale.

But because I just don’t want to go through the mental hassle of trying to convince him why a product is worth a certain price.

Or why I am not giving him a “friendship discount”.

Or a million other issues that might come up.

I don’t know if you have experienced this before, but it’s something that happens quite a lot.

So to be on the safe side, just reduce your expectations.

As a general rule, if you don’t have expectations of people, then you can’t be disappointed when they do certain things.

Of course, you can decide to take my advice or not. That’s up to you.

And I don’t know if you can find a business lesson somewhere in there.

But that’s what I have for you today.

See you tomorrow.
