{{contact.first_name}}, my body went on airplane mode.

Hey ,

What's up

Happy Sunday.

Hope you went to church today?

I did, and it was awesome.

I have a few quick marketing lessons for you today,

But before that, I just need to tell you something.

I am so tired!

Mentally tired and physically tired.

Yesterday, I had already started composing my mail to send it out,

And yesterday also happened to be the PTA meeting day of the school I teach in which took forever if you ask me,

Plus I had to quickly rush off to the market to fix a phone for someone who I will tell you about later on in this mail and also to buy a few things.

When I got back around 5:00PM, I was already late for rehearsal which was supposed to start by 4:00PM.

At the end of the day, we finished rehearsals around past 8 at night because we came late,

So sending the mail was impossible because my body went on airplane mode (lol).

Away from that, let me share a quick marketing lesson with you,

But here's a quick backstory to help you grasp the lessons very well.

As you probably already know, I repair phones.

And some weeks ago, this elderly woman who sells foodstuffs in a shop just opposite my house gave me her phone to repair her charging port for her.

This was not the first time I would be doing a job for her by the way.

I noticed that the back of the phone was swollen.

And when I opened it, I confirmed that it was the battery that was swollen.

I just went ahead to fix the charging port problem that the phone had,

And when I went to give her back the phone, I told her that I noticed the battery was swollen and that it was an indication that the battery was not good anymore.

Meaning she would have to change it soon or risk it being damaged and leaving her stranded or even worse, damaging the phone permanently.

She acknowledged it and said she would change it later.

After some time, last week she called me and asked me when I would be able to fix it for her, and we agreed on Saturday.

And yesterday, she gave me the money to fix it.

So I went to the market to replace the battery for her.

I'm sure you're wondering how this relates to marketing.

There are a bunch of marketing lessons you can learn from this, but I will mention just three of them.

Pay attention to them because they will help you a lot.

Here they are.

1. Trust Sells.

This was not the first time I was doing a job for her, and the previous ones were successful, so she trusted me.

Trust is a very important factor in marketing.

People are skeptical about who they buy from or do business with these days because there a lot of scammers out there.

Also, a lot of people promise heaven and earth and either fail to deliver or under-deliver.

So if you are doing a job for someone or selling something to them for the first time, don't just deliver.

Make sure you over-deliver.

This way, you will get repeat customers because they will keep coming back for more of your products or services.

And once you are able to get results for a few people, you can use those results as testimonials to convince other people of your competency or proficiency.

One of these days, I will teach you about the KLT factor in marketing (T stands for Trust btw)

If that sounds like something you will like to learn about, shoot me a reply and tell me,

Or you can tell me what topic you will like to learn about (around sales and marketing of course).

2. Authority Sells.

I had already properly positioned myself as an authority (in the smartphone engineering niche) because like I said, I had done jobs for her successfully before now.

So when I recommended that she needed to change her phone battery, she did so because she believed that I knew what was best for her phone.

So if you want to sell more of your products or services, get your audience or prospects to perceive you as an authority in your niche.

And how do you do this (especially if you sell online)?

By putting out helpful, useful and valuable content and information consistently.

Basically, show them that you are good at what you do and you know your onions.

This will help boost trust and authority perception which will in turn lead to more sales in the long run.

People buy from who they trust, and they tend to trust people who they think are better than others.

So if you want more sales, make them see that you are better, and get them to trust you.

3. Stop Leaving Money On The Table - Upsell.

The best person to sell to is a buyer.

What do I mean?

Once someone buys something from you, it shows that that person is a buyer.

Instead of just thanking that person and letting them go, use the opportunity to Upsell them,

By getting them to buy more of your products that solves more of their problems.

Do this by recommending or urging them to get other of your products that can solve other problems they may have,

The same way I got that woman to let me help her fix her battery problem just immediately after I had fixed her charging port problem.

Don't sound desperate.

Instead, make it look like you are trying to help them, which you are actually doing.

You get it now?

Good.

I hope you learnt something from this mail.

What other marketing lessons do you think I left out?

Tell me by replying to this mail.

See you tomorrow for another exciting episode.

Ciao for now.

To your digital success,

King Danisan™.
