A few days ago, no one had ever heard about her before.

No one knew her from Adam.

No one knew she existed.

But all of a sudden,

• Her name was on the lips of every newscaster,

• Her picture was on the front page of every newspaper,

• She was talked about on almost (if not every) news channel,

• And even a lot of people who didn't even know her name posted her picture (along with some motivational quotes) on their social media platforms.

Why did they do that?

It's simple.

And I'll tell you in a bit.

But first, just in case you don't know who I am talking about,

I am talking about no other person than Oluwatobiloba Amusan.

Still don't know who that is?

Well, she is the athlete who broke two world records in one day in the World Athletics Championships which took place in Oregon, USA recently. 

For context, here are the two records she broke. 

1. She was the first woman in the world to run for 12.2 seconds or lesser, and 

2. She became the first Nigerian in the world to receive a World Championship Gold Medal. 

As you can see, it is obvious that people love to be associated with success. 

It does not matter what tribe you are from, your gender, your niche or industry, your education, or whatever. 

Once you are successful, people will want to have something to do with you in one way or the other. 

And how does this apply to sales and marketing? 

I don't know. 

Matter of fact, I don't have a marketing lesson for you today. 

But I do have a few motivational words for you. 

Most people who were posting about Oluwatobiloba Amusa only did so because she has succeeded now. 

Tell me, where were those people 

• When she came 11th in Rio in 2016,

• Or when she came 14th in London in 2016?

• Or when she came 4th in Doha in 2019? 

• Or even when she came 4th in Tokyo just last year 2021?

Now she came first and broke some records while at it, and all of a sudden, she is worth talking about. 

It just goes to show that NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOU UNTIL YOU SUCCEED. 

So succeed, because if you are going to leave a mark in your generation, you have no choice but to succeed. 

In whatever it is you do, give it your all. 

Make sure you do whatever it takes (legitimately) to succeed. 

It may be rough and tough now in the beginning. 

But keep going. Keep striving. Keep preparing yourself. Keep building your capacity.  

Someday, you will succeed, and you will have your story to tell.
