I will NEVER advice you to do that.

,

Each time I walk into a room to sell my accessories,

I normally make a statement to announce my presence in the room.

And it's usually a basic marketing or advertising statement that goes something like this...

"Good evening guys,

Get your original accessories here..

Earphones, chargers, USB cords, iPhone cords, type C cords, airpods, etc"

Something around that point.

And each time I make the announcement depending on how "dramatic" my entry is,

Most of the time, a lot of the people in the room look up to see who is talking and hear what the person is saying,

And then they either go back to what they were doing, or go ahead and ask me questions if they are interested in what I am selling.

And usually, out of 100% of people in each room,

Only around 5 - 10% of people (rough estimate) ask me questions and show genuine interest in the products.

Most other people just play around with me, whine me and sometimes make fun of me (which I am absolutely fine with most of the time cos I understand how marketing works).

But here are two things I need you to pay attention to.

First of all, remember what I said about people looking up to see who is speaking whenever I make my entrance (and) announcement?

What that means is for those few (micro) seconds that they look up,

I have their attention!

But It doesn't last long.

That's the same way when people see your business advert on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube or anywhere,

You only have a few seconds to grab their attention, and pique their interest in what you have to offer and make an impression on them.

But no matter how interesting, creative, attractive or beautiful your advert creative is,

Some set of people will NEVER be interested in your business or product.

And that is TOTALLY fine because everyone are not the same.

And you can't sell to everybody.

But among the whole population of people who will see your advert,

There is a (small) percentage of people who are interested in buying your product, or at least interested in solving a problem they have that your product solves.

And those set of people are called your target audience.

Those are the kind of people you need to have as leads and sell to.

But first you need to define who your target audience is,

And you can do that by simply asking yourself (or finding the answers to) the following questions.

  • Who is/are my target audience?
  • What are their demographics?
  • What is their gender? Male only? Female only? Or both?
  • What is their age range?
  • What are their interests?
  • What kind of content do they love seeing?
  • What are their greatest fears, hopes and dreams?
  • Where do they live?
  • Where do they hang out online or offline? Do they hang out on Facebook, Instagram and the likes? Do they read newspapers?
  • What kind of content are they most likely to respond to or engage with?

In essence, you need to know your target audience inside out like the back of your palm.

Not everyone is your ideal customer (target audience) and that's absolutely fine.

This is why you should stop trying to sell to everybody.

And instead focus your energy on finding and attracting your target audience.

An effective way to do this is to sell the kind of products they want to buy,

And also you need to tailor (create) your (right) content specifically for them.

Your content should be so specific to your target audience, that it would repel (or even annoy) people who aren't in your target audience.

This will automatically filter out the people who are not in your target audience from your leads.

And that means that people who are not in your target audience will not like to engage with your adverts or content,

Which also means those who will engage will ONLY be people who are really interested in your product,

Which makes it a lot easier to sell to them.

And that is if you do your homework right.

The main takeaways from this mail is summarized into these few points.

1. Identify and define your target audience.

2. Create and tailor your content specifically for them and

3. Advertise. Reach out to as many of your target audience as you can.

4. Stop trying to sell to everyone. Focus on attracting your target audience.

Failure to do this properly is why you will see a person with an email list or contact list of just 1000 active viewers or members...

Selling out his products more than someone who has 5000+ or 10000+ active members.

One has quality and well targeted audience, while the other probably has randomly gotten audience.

This is why I will NEVER advice you to grow your contact list or followers by joining random contact gain or followers gain groups.

You may think you are taking a shortcut but when it's time to get results and start making sales,

You will understand what I am talking about.

I think I have ranted enough for today.

Let me go and continue my reading.

I hope you got the message I was trying to pass.

Don't forget to reply to this mail and tell me if you learnt something.

And you rave in my DM in my WhatsApp DM if you like as well.

Have a lovely night's rest or rest of your day (depending on when you see this).

To your digital success,
