Hey ,
Yesterday, I told you a funny story of what happened to me and you were laughing hysterically.
Yes, you!
You thought I wouldn't know right?
I caught you red handed...
YOU LYING PIECE OF S-
Just kidding.
Anyway, yesterday, I told you that the whole shenanigan reminded me of a very important marketing lesson,
And I told you that I would tell you the lesson in this mail.
I will go ahead and do just that in a bit,
But first, yesterday, I was watching a movie,
And while watching one of the scenes, one of the characters in one of his conversations casually made a statement that and I didn't really think about it,
But early this morning when I woke up, I remembered that statement, and then it stuck me.
There was a huge lesson staring right at me, and i didn't even realize it initially,
And I will tell you this lesson soon,
But first, let me give you a quick backstory.
The name of the movie is "The Good Doctor".
It's a very interesting series about a young man named Shaun who had autism.
PS: Autism is a condition or disorder that begins in childhood and that causes problems in forming relationships and in communicating with other people.
Source: Merriam Webster Dictionary.
Despite his condition, he was very brilliant, so much that he become a surgical resident in a very big hospital in the US.
But he's not the person I am talking about in the story.
In the episode I was watching, a fatal accident happened, and a lot of victims had severe injuries,
But there was this lady whose body was badly burnt from her chest region down,
When she saw her body through a mirror, out of anger and frustration, she started talking anyhow to the doctor taking care of her.
She was frustrated because she had been planning to get married.
But now, who would want to marry a "burnt offering"?
Whatever the doctor said or did didn't seem to help. Rather, it seemed he was making things worse.
So he began searching for a solution for her,
And after doing some research, he came up with an idea.
So he went to meet his superior and told him that he had an idea on how to help her heal without using skin grafts.
And his superior replied with these words:
"Really? Sell it to me".
That's it.
Looking back, there are quite a number of lessons to pick from that statement alone,
And I will try to dissect the statement for you,
But not today.
Maybe tomorrow, or not.
Just remind me though in case I forget.
Now, to the lessons I promised to share with you from yesterday's funny story,
1. Perception is very important.
In marketing, how people perceive you is very important.
The way you talk, the kind of content you put out, the way you sell, the way you dress,
All of these things put together are what creates an image of you or your brand's personality subconsciously in the mind of your customers.
That's why you have to be careful when you do or say certain things.
If you create the wrong impressions in the minds of your prospects, you may regret it later.
Also, you don't want to come across as desperate to take people's money.
That's a one way ticket to no sales.
You should endeavor to make them perceive you as an authority
And how do you that?
That brings me to number 2.
2. Effective positioning .
The way you position yourself is how people will perceive you to be..
If you position yourself as someone who knows a lot about your niche, then they will see you as an authority.
And that way, they are more likely to buy from you than from your competition.
And how do you make people perceive you as an authority?
Through correct positioning.
You can do this with different tools
First off, you see that picture on your WhatsApp list that the quality is poor, or those pictures of cats and dogs on your profile picture,
Change them!
Get a professional studio taken photograph of yourself and put it there.
If you can't afford it yet, look for a good camera and take a good picture of yourself and put it there.
Or, you could get a logo design or flier design for your brand or business and put it there instead.
Don't give quack designers to design nonsense for you o.
The quality of your appearance should be the quality of customers you want to have.
So make sure you get a quality logo or flier design done for you.
You can hit me up if you want to professional logo or flier designed for you...
Or not... Na you sabi.
Next, your content.
Put out valuable content around your niche.
Content that educates your audience, informs them, engages them and sometimes that entertains them.
But more of the time, educate them.
Teach them what they don't know.
Once you are able to do this for a long time, they will respect and trust you more.
And hence, they will buy from you more.
3. Sell Yourself Better.
You market your self/brand everyday, consciously or unconsciously.
People are watching the way you sell.
Imagine a web designer or graphic designer begging people...
"Abeg come design your flier for just 1k.. I neva chop since morning"
Fine, you may get some clients,
But is that the kind of level you want your brand to be at?
How many 1k jobs will you do before you become rich?
And do you plan to keep charging low amounts for your service?
That's not a good strategy.
Sell yourself better.
Imagine someone telling you to come and learn how to make money online,
And that same person is still posting his account number on his status begging you to send him money..
Or the person is posting things that indicate that he or she is poor or doesn't even have that kind of money...
Now tell me, how do you expect people to take you seriously?
Sell yourself better.
Dress well.
Look nice.
Take nice pictures.
Sell yourself better.
Read that again.
Let it sink in very well.
I did not say you should be lying upandan o,
Or that you should be forming to be what you are not.
Just use your sense in anything you are doing.
Package yourself well.
That's just my own $0.02.
Anyway, I have to go home home now.
Mosquito don nearly finish me for where I dey type this mail.
Have a lovely night's rest okay?
To your digital success,
King Danisan™.
