I listened and watch a @pinterestuk event this week - it was fascinating to see how people are using the platform, but THE biggest take away from it all was a chat from @elizabday with the amazing @karen.blackett.71, the country manager for the UP at media company WPP. Elizabeth hosts a podcast on failure. She chats to people three of their failures and how that has helped them to learn and succeed in life. Her chat with Karen was inspiring and fascinating in equal measure, and made me realise how critical it is for us to help our children to understand how important failure really is. It isn't something to be feared, it is something to be build on, to learn from, to inspire. It is THE most important step on the way to the successes in life. I found myself thinking about it, and talking about it in passing with the kids from time to time throughout the week when sometimes things didn't go right for them. If you tried and it didn't work, that's a success, learn and move on. Keep going. Resilience is SUCH a massively important quality, and we can only truly learn it if we are making those mistakes and experiencing failures in life. I fail every single day in one way or another. And actually. That's totally fine. We cannot achieve perfect, so lets not try. Lets learn from the failures and keep on going. I came across this today - and thought it was incredibly poignant. For us, it is so helpful to our children to treat them as their own little people, and not to try and mould them into what we think they should be. They should be allowed to find their own little way, to be their own little selves so that they can grow into the person that they feel the most comfortable being, not little versions of perhaps what we wished we had been, or that we feel we should have become.
