Jesus Can Rescue the Boy

The director of Agape Ministries invited us to come visit their office today.
The social worker shared what happens when they rescue a child.
They told stories of middle of the night head counts of those sleeping on the streets.
And we heard more about the boy we met on Saturday.
They consider him to be "at high risk."
Sometimes he goes to school.
Sometimes he roams the streets sniffing glue and looking for pieces of metal.
It would be so much better if he always went to school.
His mother never has quite enough.
The money runs out before the school fees are paid.
And he doesn't have the books he needs for school.
As the pressure in his life continues to grow just one traumatic event could push him over the edge.
He's already addicted to the freedom of the streets.
A sniff of his glue and he's on a high that helps him forget all of his problems.
It happens time and again.
They were grateful to find him before he disappeared into a life of gangs and drugs.
He was getting so very close to falling over that edge.
Saving the boy now is far better than rescuing a man later.
It's easier to reach out to him now than fix a brain already destroyed by drugs.
"It takes a village to raise a child."
But sometimes the village is hurting,
the family is wounded,
and the boy is crying for help.
They need someone to let them know they are made in God's image.
They need someone to show them a better way.
Jesus can rescue the boy and raise him to be a man.
I'm praying tonight for the boys who so desperately need Jesus and their own village.
