Who is the Greatest in the Kingdom

Day 3 of the 2022 Kenya elections is about to fade away into history.
It's quieter than usual.
It feels like the country is holding its breath while the votes are still being counted.
One of my friends told me she walked two hours on Tuesday to her job because the public transportation vehicles weren't running.
Not everyone can stock their pantry,
stay at home and wait till this is all over.
I'm told a lot of businesses have shuttered their doors.
Schools were supposed to reopen today but that date has been pushed off till Monday.
Who knows if they'll be able to go to school then?
What's next is anyone's guess.
*********
In this world are those who seek power and position.
So often the true heroes are unsung and overlooked.
One afternoon this week I asked one of the boys why he had put his porridge in an empty water bottle.
Maybe,I thought he was saving it for later.
He looked up at me shyly and said,
"I'm taking it to mom."
I stopped.
Life doesn't always come with a set of instructions neatly detailing what we should do next.
It's then we have to follow our heart.
I paused only a moment or two.
I told him, "Let me have your water bottle."
I don't know what he thought I was going to do.
I walked inside and gave the bottle to my daughter.
"Fill this up for him to take to his mom."
When I came outside I handed him the full bottle of porridge.
"For your mom," was all I could say.
He flashed me a smile that said more than a hundred words.
