Is it time for you to look for a new job?

Hello, and happy Monday!

Apologies for missing the email last week - we've been down with a bad flu & cold for the most part of last week.

Anyhow - this issue is dedicated to all of you mid-professionals out there. Yes, you. You've been working for the last 3-5 years or so, and some of you are probably still in your first company that you joined straight out of university.

You've done well in your first full-time job, you successfully completed some big achievements and projects at work, and you have probably started to build a name for yourself in your organization.

Things have been going well for you professionally. Sure, there are the occasional stress or two at work. But so far, you've done pretty good in building your career and you're feeling pretty proud of how far you've come.

We had the opportunity to join a physical Primed For Success mentoring event recently at Menara Maxis!

However, you can't deny it.

There's this tiny little voice in your head that would sometimes whisper...

Isn't it time for you to move on and find a new opportunity?

Kejar Kerjaya had the opportunity to meet with Liza Sahar, the Regional Head for Talent Acquisition and Employer Branding at CIMB. We had an interesting conversation, from discussing about potential collaborations to getting her advice and opinions on how we can better support mid-level professionals (like you!) in their career development.

Some people may struggle when it comes to making the jump from their first job to their second one. For others, it may feel harder to leave, especially after spending 3+ years in a company.

After all, they have taken the time to build you up. They trusted you, a mere fresh graduate who has barely any understanding of the real world, and they provided you ample opportunities to grow and learn.

And so you stayed. You learnt and you grew and you paid your dues.

Until one day you feel like it's probably time for you to leave, but you don't really know if you should or even how to start.

One with Liza Sahar and Mallory Loone (from Work Inspires) from a few months ago.

How do you really know when would be the right time to move on? Is there even a right time for the change?

One thing that stuck to us during our conversation with Liza was when she shared a quote from one of the senior leaders at CIMB, Amran Mohamad, during a recent career event.

"You’ll know it’s time to move on when you are no longer contributing to the company."

At the end of the day, you will have to make the decision yourself. When you feel like work has become too routine, and you're only doing the bare necessity to pass each day, then it may be time to consider a change.

Following up to that, this new post might be of interest to you!

To wrap up for this week, we have an important question we would like your input on. Please do reply with your thoughts and suggestions!

Our plan:

We are looking to plan a small networking/dialogue session with seasoned recruiters and HR professionals. This will be catered towards mid-level professionals like you who may be struggling with your career development and growth and may be looking for advice or help. This can also serve as a networking opportunity for you to connect with other mid-level professionals in different industries and organizations.

Our tentative:

This is tentatively planned for Saturday 9th or 23rd September, located in Bangsar (reachable via LRT). It will most likely be a 2-hour session, roughly around 10am-12pm. Due to the location, this will be open to approximately 30pax. Light refreshments (coffee/tea and pastries) will be provided.

Our question(s) to you:

  1. To help cover the costs for the venue and refreshments, tickets may be sold to people interested to attend. How much, if any, would you be willing to pay for a small & close-knit dialogue/networking event with HR professionals?
  2. Regardless of whether it would be a paid or free event, would you be interested to join us?
  3. If you would be attending, what question(s) do you have in mind that you would like to discuss about?

We look forward to hearing from you, as we would want to cater the event to answer your question(s) as much as we could. Thank you in advance for your thoughts and suggestions, and we would definitely share more details as we finalize them.

Until we see you again next week - stay awesome and have a good week ahead!

Best,

Kejar Kerjaya
