Springing Ahead

It is Spring! Did you turn your clocks forward?
With Spring in the air, it is also the time we start thinking Summer Vacation plans. What are you planning to do?
I will be going to Greenland this August with my husband. I chose a ship that makes four ports of call in Greenland. Many itineraries stop in one perhaps two ports, but this itinerary is for four ports plus Canada! The other reason I chose this sailing is because I can fly roundtrip to New York to catch the ship. This is so much better than having to fly to Iceland or Europe and only a single port in Greenland. Here is the itinerary – come join me! I know it will be wonderful.
Here is additional information about Greenland:
Greenland is a breathtaking destination with stunning natural landscapes, unique Arctic wildlife, and a fascinating Inuit culture. Here are some top things to see and do in Greenland:
Natural Wonders
- Ilulissat Icefjord (UNESCO Site) – One of the most famous sights, featuring massive icebergs calving from Sermeq Kujalleq Glacier.
- Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) – Best seen from September to April in places like Kangerlussuaq or Nuuk.
- Midnight Sun – During summer (May to July), the sun never sets in parts of Greenland.
- Eqi Glacier – A spectacular active glacier where you can witness ice breaking off.
- Disko Island – Known for its dramatic basalt mountains and hot springs.
- Kangerlussuaq Ice Cap – A gateway to the vast Greenland Ice Sheet, where you can walk on the ancient ice.
Wildlife & Outdoor Adventures
- Whale Watching – Spot humpback, minke, and fin whales near Ilulissat and Nuuk.
- Dog Sledding – A traditional way to explore snowy landscapes, especially in winter.
- Hiking & Trekking – Popular trails include the Arctic Circle Trail and hikes near Tasiilaq.
- Kayaking – Paddle among icebergs in the fjords, just like the Inuit have for centuries.
Cultural & Historical Highlights
- Nuuk (Capital City) – Visit the Greenland National Museum, enjoy local cuisine, and see the colorful houses.
- Qaqortoq – Home to Norse ruins, hot springs, and beautiful stone carvings.
- Hvalsey Church Ruins – The best-preserved Norse ruins in Greenland.
- Tasiilaq & East Greenland – More remote and offers insight into traditional Inuit culture.
