Happy Halloween, 💙 📚
Are you celebrating Halloween where you are? Are you dressing up or handing out candy?
As for me, I visited a really haunting place this month… the Ta Phrom temple in Cambodia, a 12th/13th century temple that was originally a Buddhist monastery and university.
But more recently, it’s been known as the Tomb Raider temple, because that’s where the 2001 movie with Angelina Jolie was filmed!
The temple really reminds me of The Hideout from The Deathday Chronicles! I was enchanted the second I stepped foot within its grounds. The trees towering above the temple’s ruins, the contrast but also the symbiosis between man and nature… there was something so magical about it.
I’d only come across one other place that reminded me of The Hideout as much as Ta Phrom — the ruins of a church in the sleepy town of Diest in Belgium (you can read more about it and see some photos on my blog here!)
Visiting the temple really sparked my passion for writing The Deathday Chronicles — now I’m even more excited to share the next part of the story with you. And! During my visit, I got some additional ideas for what to include in the books — win!
