Leveling Up // Robotics Newsletter Vol 52

Hi,

I remember my first job and feeling dumb. I thought everyone around me was so smart, they knew everything. And I was struggling with small things.

Over time, I have learned how they got there - by doing the hard stuff. You see when we start - we have the beginner mindset - either you learn in school or you look up a tutorial online. Someone teaches you the abc and few of the common words. In coding this would be - learning about variables, loops, conditions, etc.

But then we get stuck there. We expect someone to teach us the next level. We expect another tutorial. That is beginner mindset.

You see to level up, you have to do the hard problems. You have to seek out the challenges, try to solve it and learn from it.

Don't believe me? Google - C++ tutorials - you will find tons of beginners tutorials. But you will find very few intermediate or expert tutorials.

To get good, you have to get out of the beginner mindset and out in efforts to level up. This could mean taking on a more challenging project or picking up the C++ expert textbook and going through it.

This is not easy. There is often limited information, it is unorganized and chaotic. You will feel lost and confused. To level up is to keep working through it. It is to ask for help and expect directions (NOT tutorial) on how to try to solve the problem and then doing the work yourself.

👩🏽‍💻 Jobs (USA)

I have created a list of 100 Robotics companies in USA - click here for link

❤️ Things I am enjoying right now

💪 Bicep curls - I am learning how to do them correctly - i.e. - you shouldn't move your elbows - and it has made me look at this exercise differently.

📺 TV Show - Glamarous - it is a drama show about a beauty company. It has such a better representation of diversity to convey the same struggle that everyone has in love and work.

📲 Google Maps - this might sound silly but I have such an appreciation for the public transport option in google maps. Makes it easier to commute.
