Hi,

As a masters student, I didn't find an internship. I felt heartbroken and a failure. I was working hard all year, applying to internships but I didn't get one. The first few days of summer, I was sad and didn't feel like doing anything.

Obviously that didn't help. So after a few days, I got out of rut and started thinking - it wasn't just about working hard and doing what I have been doing so far. I had to try something different because whatever I did so far didn't work.

I had applied to multiple companies and I didn't get an internship. I started thinking what can I do different.

1. I have been applying with same resume and no result. So I got my resume reviewed.
2. I needed more experience. Well can't find an internship so did my own project and added it as an experience. Even made a website to display my work.
3. I was applying to all big name companies (and so were other people). So I started looking for smaller companies and applied there. There is a dedicate place I found - AngelList - similar to Linkedin but for startups.
4. I knew coding but I was a beginner. So I started improving my coding skills.
5. I was failing coding challenges. Dug deeper and found out you need to know DSA. Started learning DSA and solving leetcode problems.

and guess what? I found a one-month winter internship in December. I found it through AngelList. I did way better in the coding round!

So next time you fail, know that everyone fails. It is part of the journey. To move forward you need to find out what went wrong and course correct.

Doing the same thing won't help. Figure out what you can do different.
