Hi,

It is great to have dreams. For me dreams are things I am passionate about and want to do. And they way I make them happen is by writing it down as a goal.

It is my birthday week and every year, I write down a list of goals for myself. Here is what was on my list for this year:

• Learn to swim
• Surf in southern california
• Visit 1 new country
• Run a $$$ profitable business
• Fly first class once

Except the last one, I complete all the rest.

I never learnt swimming as a kid and I always wanted to. I put it off as one day, I will learn. I have also taken some group classes here and there over the years and just never got good at it.

So at my last birthday, I wrote it down again as a goal along with surfing. The surfing goal drove the swimming goal and I learned to swim confidently.

To some of you these goals may sound ridiculously and not relatable. But these are my goals when I have already completed my education, run a business and have a job.

In previous years, I have had goals like - get into a robotics program, get a job with 6 figure salary, learn to speak confidently in public.

And I have achieved a fair number of those by taking the first step of writing it down. A good goal is where you write down things more specifically. Travel more vs visit one new country, Earn more money vs 6 figure salary, etc.

So I encourage you to take a few min and list down 3-6 goals for this year.

❤️ Things I am enjoying right now

📖 Book - Die with Zero - currently reading this. It is such a unique perspective on giving more importance to experiences in life vs saving for a future. A thought provoking point was how going on a backpacking trip right after college is an experience is not the same as going on a trip where you can afford better hotels but don't have the energy to even walk around for a whole day.

📺 TV Show - Made in Heaven - this shows touches upon a lot of subject related to weddings in India - background checks, cheating, politics. But an interesting point in the show for me was when the main character realized and apologize for his behavior from years ago.
