if you missed anything this week, here are your Useful Content Notes.
3 POWERFUL ways to START your VIDEOS.
A quick USEFUL CONTENT guide to WIN in the first 5 seconds.
1️⃣ Ask a Question:
Explanation: Asking a question creates what some people call a “Curiosity Gap”. The Audience will want to stick around to hear the answer if the question is relevant and interesting enough.
2️⃣ Provoke the Audience:
Explanation: Open with a strong contrarian, polarizing, or mysterious statement. Contrarian or polarising statements will cause people to take sides and they'll stick around to agree or to oppose. In the end, you can agree or disagree with the point of view. Mysterious statements will spark curiosity.
3️⃣ Make a Promise:
Explanation: Making a promise has a very similar effect to asking a question. You are giving one part of something and proposing to the audience that they stay to get the rest. Sometimes people call this opening a loop, and when you keep the promise you close the loop. Using this is an exercise of trust and you have to ensure that you deliver on the promise every time.
4️⃣ BONUS - Use a unique sound or visual:
Explanation: This is when you say, show, or do something unexpected at the start of your video. This may not have anything to do with the actual content, but it's more effective if it relates somehow. This can also be used in conjunction with the other methods. I would advise that this be used sparingly because it can be seen as a gimmick if overdone.
In case you haven't gotten it yet, all of these are talking about hooks…but since everyone is tired of hearing about hooks, I decided to take a different approach.
Hopefully, it's still useful. 😉
P.S. Different studies say different things about the time you have to capture someone’s attention.
It usually ranges from 3-15 seconds but we're settling on 5 today.
Be great,
