Shut up and Dribble/ Betting on Sport/ Find good books

Hi friends,

Last week I wrote a post called Shut up and Dribble about the history of athletes feeling the consequences of their social activism. I got to learn about Tommie Smith & John Carlos as well as Muhammad Ali and his protest as a conscientious objector to the Vietnam War. The most interesting part has been to see the transition, even over the last decade, that leagues have made in supporting their players. The NBA is using this moment as a way to strengthen their brand value with their support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

I also took some time to learn a little more about sports betting and the history behind it. I got to read into two of the major scandals, one in 1919 and the other in 2007. I think my favorite part though was looking into how creative some bookies are in terms of getting people to give them their money. It's definitely an interesting world, and will become one of the most important value drivers in the business of sport.

A few months ago I lost my kindle, and for my birthday my mom got me a new one (shout out mom). The next step was to fill it with really interesting books, but how could I possibly figure out what was worth reading? This website called most recommended books came to the rescue. You can basically find a bunch of book recommendations from people you've heard of, but the best part is that you can look at the most commonly recommended ones. Really nice tool

I hope you have a wonderful week!

Julian
