Collaborative Technology/ Shared Ownership/

Hello ,

Monday I wrote about collaborative technology, which has been the saving grace of the Covid crisis. When I was reading into this as a trend I found that one of the areas that doesn't seem to have a category winner was interactions with customers. This is because there are so many different modes of communication; like SMS, email, and social media. Here it's clear to see that communications are unbelievably fractured. Interestingly enough Facebook is working to unify messaging across all their platforms and advances in messaging technology (RCS) are slowly bridging the gap between all these.

Shared Ownership is a model of product usage more akin to renting than owning. Most people have a lot of unused capacity in their lives, which adds costs to society. The idea of shared ownership is to allow more people access to fewer resources to address this problem. It works really well on a longer timescale, but generally doesn't handle surges in demand well. Because we now have the capability to share information so effectively like location, it's possible to share more products that aren't used to their full capacity.

This week I was curious about what kind of things people are making every day. This led me to Product Hunt, a website where people can release the cool things they make. There are some really interesting things on there, and a lot of things I didn't really get.

Hope you have a great week,

Julian
