Fiction Fridays - An apple a day

“Exploring life through fiction, together.”
[My writing streak passed 100 this week. You probably don’t remember (care) when I lost my last one, and you’d be right not to. We all stumble. It’s how we get up that counts. So, 100 days later, I’m looking forward to 1000s more. Maybe not in a row, but ticked off nonetheless. Thank you for joining me on the journey.]
Older friends would talk about things coming in seasons, and I used to think they were exaggerating. But true enough, all the weddings seemed to roll in around each other. Then the children. Now it looks like divorces loom.
Fiction Bite - An apple a day
He bit. The flesh crunched, spurting crystal-sweet juice. He smiled. One more day without the bitch. He’d eat a second, just to be sure.
Quote of the Week
“Divorce is probably of nearly the same date as marriage. I believe, however, that marriage is some weeks the more ancient.” — Voltaire
Book of the month
This is How You Lose The Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone
Fantastic. Magnificent. Damn, I wish I wrote it. They juggle worlds and dimensions and time with ease. Everywhere seems real, everywhere seems jewellike. It cuts and it delights. I recommend skipping the blurb (spoilers) and diving head in. You’ll thank me later.
Final Words
And I hated the pattern. I wanted to break it, to run my own way. But wherever I went, there was everyone else. So now friends are breaking up. Families are being torn apart. It’s tragic, and it shouldn’t affect my marriage. So why does it feel like a sword hangs over my head?
What season are you in at the moment? Are you embracing it or fighting it? It’d make my day to hear from you.
With Love,
Josiah
