“Exploring life through fiction, together.”

I still miss our first car. She was small, and she leaked so much we’d periodically have to bail out the boot. But she was ours. Every now and then, I see another Clio of the same age, in the same colour, and my heart aches.

All for an inanimate object.

Fiction Bite - Flora

Dad, buy me a car.

Why?

I need one for uni.

I’ll buy you one next August.

And I’ll need to practise.

July.

Lots

June, then.

Why not now?

Because you said you needed one for university.

I do.

And?

Well, there’s this girl…

Quote of the Week

Book of the month

Lying by Sam Harris

Like a sledgehammer to the head, it’s quick, painful, and leaves you a changed person. Ok, it’s not actually painful, but I found it discomforting. In a mere 42 pages (the rest are interesting appendices), Harris explains how he feels lying in all its forms is wrong. Sounds easy to agree to, right? Except, he focuses on the white lies we tell so easily and convince ourselves they’re for the common good. A fascinating treatise on a tricky subject.

Final Words

Significance is a funny thing. Hard to manufacture, easy to stumble upon. Our house is full of odd items soaked in it. A shell from a trip to Whitby, a 50p piece I saved for my wife, plants like my Grandad’s, physical books that cost more than the e-copies.

To be honest, I have a bit of a significance problem. I attach it too easily and find parting too painful. Given half a chance, I’ll hoard it all. But our house is already too full, so I have to choose.

How easy do you find getting rid of stuff? Do you have any methods/tips? Would you be willing to hit reply? It’d make my day to hear from you.

With Love,

Josiah
