Fiction Fridays - The tide is pulling

“Exploring life through fiction, together.”

When you stand at the top of a cliff, do you also feel the void calling to you? For me, it feels like a magnet pulling forward, willing me to leap. Just to see what it would feel like.

Fiction Bite - The tide is pulling

Rain danced across the water at his feet. Their thousand ripples collided into a shimmering light. Behind him, the bone-white sand lay empty. Before him, the blue-grey sea swam, calling in light, calling in rain. Only asking for his body. It would give back his soul.

Quote of the Week

“Let them think what they liked, but I didn't mean to drown myself. I meant to swim till I sank -- but that's not the same thing.”

Joseph Conrad, The Secret Sharer and other stories

Book of the month

Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon

This book had been recommended so many times it was inevitable I’d read it, and it lived up to the hype. It’s short, has wonderful doodles, and is packed with wisdom. It deserves its status as a must read for creatives.

Final Words

It could be just a hyper awareness of risk. Maybe our brains are so focussed on keeping us alive and not tumbling over the edge, we seem drawn to it. Or mere curiosity, because I will likely never know and the question of how it feels to tumble down the cliff face will always haunt me.

And somehow, I don’t think base jumping would help, even if I was brave enough to try.

Do you have any siren songs in your life? What are they luring you towards? Would you be willing to hit reply? It’d make my day to hear from you.

With Love,

Josiah
