Happy new year!
New Habit Formation
Hope you're starting the new year on a good footing. I don't set new year resolutions but this year I started a habit development strategy introduced by James Clear in his book Atomic Habits. I created a very simple template (link here) which you can use if you wanna create some new habits.
Some pointers:
- Start small (actually teeny tiny). Think something that will take less than 2 minutes of your time to complete. The idea is to GET STARTED. And only AFTER the habit is ingrained, do you start make it longer. Eg meditate for 1 min at first, and after it is automatic, make it 5min, and then 10 min etc.
- Stack. Make it automatic. For eg, when you wake up you might drink a glass of water naturally. Pair that with something else you are trying to develop. Maybe do 20 pushups. The idea is to pair the new habit with something that you already do automatically.
- Track. Use the template I attached to make a tick beside each habit you did for the day. We are visual people that crave for "rewards". Just seeing that tick physically each time you do it will create a small snowball effect as you don't want to miss any ticks.
- Reward. Reward yourself! Set a simple reward for yourself at the end of the month or whatever timeframe for each habit that you have done consistently for the month. Could be a 1-hr massage etc.
- Lots more tips in his book which I highly recommend. (Maybe this is a new habit for you to form, to read something every day?)
If you just start some TINY habit at the start of the year, by the end of the year you might be surprised at the great new habits you have formed. And then you can keep building on them.
New Website
If you haven't already, please check out the new website where I will be hosting and making changes to the course material going forward. Here it is again: www.good-steward.net. You can change your password once you log on.
New! Model Portfolio
For those of you who are still in the Group Coaching Program, I have finally decided to set up a model portfolio to illustrate some of the investment principles I teach. You can access it under the Group Coaching Recordings section. I've just used the 1st trading day of the year (3 Jan) to start things off.
You will need excel for it to work properly as I have set it up to pull simple market data automatically. You can also use it as a template for your own portfolio records.
Again, I have to emphasise this is not meant to be investment advice or a stock tips / ideas service but I think it would be helpful to illustrate some concepts and also follow on a real time basis.
Ok! Hope you have an amazing year ahead and our next Q&A session will be on the 3rd Sat as usual and I'll send out the invite closer to the date.
Have an amazing, "opportunity-filled" 2023 ahead!
Joshua
